Horner’s was established in Gillingham, England in 1960 by Karl and Patricia Horner, the same couple who established Horners in Australia.
They moved their family of 5 to Australia in 1976 and set up a small bakery in Sorrento a year later. Within a few years the shopping centre was expanded by colourful Gold Coast identity, the late Brian Maher, and the shop moved to its current location on Bundall Rd. By 1980 the Bundall Bridge had been completed and the dead ended Bermuda st and Bundall rd, had become a major North South arterial road linking Burleigh with Southport and putting customers within easy access of Horners for miles around.
The 2 sons (Robert and Martin) took over the business in ’93 and remained partners till Martin followed his dream into the music industry in 2000. Robert and his wife then sought about establishing themselves as leaders in the retail baking industry specializing in award winning meat pies and birthday and novelty cakes. They have employed quality pastry chefs from overseas and the hotel industry and counter staff committed to customer excellence who try to cater for customers every need.
Horners now cater to a large clientele ranging from the Hospitals in Southport, to the Council and law offices in the Bundall business district. They have made cakes and catered functions for clients ranging from ex-prime Minister Mr John Howard, through to many famous sporting identities.
